The Early Years:

Anand Aravindakshan hails from a family of musicians of which, his father Shri. V.A. Aravindakshan is a renowned Carnatic musician in the field of Bharatanatyam. He started his training in Indian classical music at the age of 6 from renowned Carnatic music stalwart Sangita Kala Acharya Smt. Seetha Rajan.

During his school days, he discovered his passion for other genres of music and started exploring deeper into it. His Mother, Usha Aravindakshan, though a home maker with no formal music training, was instrumental in making him understand the poetry and dynamics in a film song,, which he believes is something that is still his most important lesson he learnt. The winnings in school culturals boosted his confidence and re-assured him that he was on the right path.

The Chase

At the crossroads of choosing a career in the financial background, being a student of commerce from R.K.M. Vivekananda College and going mainstream into playback singing, he decided to participate in reality shows, to give himself a reality check of how good or bad he is. His First one being Kairali Tv’s Gandharva Sangeetham – A popular Malayalam reality show in which he was awarded, the runner up by Padma Vibhushan Dr. K.J. Yesudas the legendary singer. This win was a big booster to his confidence in choosing music as his career. He went on to participate in many more reality shows such as Jaya Tv’s ‘Raagamalika’ – Runner up, Sun Tv’s ‘Athiradi Singer’ – Runner Up, Zee Tamil channels ‘SaReGaMaPa’ – Winner. The crown of all, was his winning in the Tamil Reality show ‘Super Singer’, South India’s biggest reality show In Vijay TV, which gave him the much needed recognition.

One of the most popular episodes in the show’s history was his presentation of the song ‘Kannamma Kanavilaya’ in front of the legendary singer Padma Bhushan Dr. S.P. Balasubrahmanyam. He was moved to tears, listening to Anand’s rendition of the song which was originally sung by him. This moment remains as one of the most unforgettable memories in Anand’s life.

The winning of super singer opened the doors to the movie industry and subsequently gave him the hit number, ‘Sirukki Vaasam’ from the film ‘Kodi’ by Popular music composer, Santosh Narayanan which became a rage amongst the youngsters. He went on to sing for many more films and has an array of hits to his name such as ‘Ninaleni’ from the film 180 – Telugu, ‘Tham Tham’ – Pasanga 2 – Tamil, ‘Verikonda Puli’ – Paandiya Naadu – Tamil , ‘Vazhivakkil’ – Annayum Rasoolum – Malayalam, ‘Naa Iruva’ – Vajra – Kannada , ‘Mailaanjiye’ – Sivappu Manjal Pacchai – Tamil and so on. The song ‘Poongatre’ from the film MoM has a special place in his heart as it is his first song for the Oscar Awardee Dr. A.R. Rahman.

Anand has toured extensively around the globe to Malaysia, London, Dublin, Dubai, U.S.A, Australia and New Zealand, to name a few. He has had the privilege to share the stage alongside legends like Veena Rajesh Vaidhya, Stefen Devassy, K.S. Chitra & Dr. S.P. Balasubrahmanyam.

Apart from being a musician, Anand is also a trained Sound Engineer from Soundtech Media, Chennai, One of South India’s Best Sound Engineering Institutes.
